Busted trying to make up for "Oscars So White"

So the new story is that they screwed up..which happens, granted. But....Warren Beatty says that the awkward little pause was because the card read "Emma Stone-La La Land"...which was the award given out two awards before (the order went actress, actor, picture)...so now we're supposed to believe they resealed the envelope with the card inside? I say that because if you watch the video we have a new, freshly opened envelope with the "Moonlight" card being shown.

Still dont buy it...admit it was the payback awards for OSW and you got caught. Beatty's pause could just as easily have been because they knew "Moonlight" was supposed to be the winner.

BTW, since I know most of you havent heard of, much less seen, the "best picture"...its about a young gay black man growing up with his addict prostitute mother and drug dealer friends, who grows up to become a dealer himself and reconciling with his first gay experience at the end. Nothing uplifting like "Hidden Figures" (the real best black headed film of the year. "Arrival" was my best picture overall, with HF coming a very close 2nd), nothing soul searching like "Fences" (where Denzel got screwed out of his Best Actor prize).

Nope...we get drug dealer/addict/whore stereotypes, but hey...at least this time the protagonist is gay.

Good work Oscar. I'm done with you.

10 BEST FILMS OF 2016

10.  13 Hours – This tale of events in Benghazi in 2011 is far too good to have the words “A Michael Bay Film” attached to it.

9.  Loving – Slow paced but well done tale of a Virginia couple who just wanted to be married yet became the key cog in the interracial marriage debate.

8.  10 Cloverfield Lane – A different sequel, set in the same world.  Perhaps better than its predecessor.

7.  Sully – A well done tale of a man who never set out to be a hero, he just set out to keep his passengers alive. Great job by Hanks and co.

6.  Deepwater Horizon – Yet another true life tale, woven into a heart racing disaster epic. 

5.  Don’t Breathe – Outstanding horror entry this year, packed one of the hardest hits in a long time

4.  Bad Moms – See Ghostbusters?  This is how to work a great film from an all female cast.  Script does matter.

3.  Captain America : Civil War – Maybe the finest comic book film ever crafted.  Just outstanding

2.  Deadpool – The best time I’ve had at the movies all year, only moments into the credits I knew I’d love this film.

1.  Arrival – A deep, thought provoking, outstanding tale of not what we do when aliens arrive, but what we are as an entity.  Beautiful film and the best I’ve seen all year.

10 WORST FILMS OF 2016

10.  Rogue One – Not really a bad film per say, but disappointing that a film made 39 years after the film it ties into would have so many continuity errors with its tie in.

9.  Siren – One of the best shorts from the original VHS becomes an overly long feature.  Good idea, shit execution.

8.  Mascots – This made for Netflix tale demonstrated once and for all that the mockumentary is dead.

7.  Yoga Hozers – Kevin Smith continues the freefall that began with his discovery of pot during Zach and Miri make a Porno.  His films are now as bad as his detractors’ say they’ve been. 

6.  Inferno – Yup, that’s what this film should be thrown into.

5.  Pride and Prejudice and Zombies – Another great geek fic turned horrible film.

4.  Suicide Squad – Another in the series of piss poor DC adaptations. 

3.  Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates – No, Mike and Dave need a lobotomy.

2.  Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice – Seriously, it sucks.  Stupid, bad writing….just shit. 

1. Ghostbusters – Every bit as bad as you’ve heard.  Has nothing to do with the female cast, it has everything to do with horrible writing, and every character being the same basic thing.   A piss poor effort from everyone involved, who clearly thought they could just show up and make a worthy film.

2015's 10 Best Films!

Much like the worst list, here's what we saw that we just loved this year.  Didn't see everything released this year (count is less than 80 for us), but there were some real gems out there!

10.  Trainwreck:  Perhaps the deepest, richest and most intelligent raunchy comedy of the year.

9.  Joy: A very inspiring and entertaining film, with a stellar performance from Jennifer Lawrence, but takes a little too long to get going.

8.  The Final Girls:  A clever and very well done little meta-comedy horror about a girl who goes back into her late mothers most well known film...a cheesy 80's slasher flick. And when I say in the film..I mean...in the film.

7.  Everest:  Taken from several different accounts of the 1996 Mt. Everest disaster, this film gives you an outstanding look at what happened on that tragic May 10th, including the first release of actual dialogue from the event.  Heartbreaking.

6.  Spring:  A deep, atmospheric monster movie that uses an angle never used before.  A captivating and beautiful watch.

5.  Straight Outta Compton:  In spite of some of the blatant revisions to make the group look good (that bit with Eazy and Cube reuniting in the club?!  CHEESY!), still an utterly mind blowing film, outstanding!

4.  Jurassic World:  Great casting, great story and great fun!  Great way to kick start the series.

3.  Ex Machina:  Mans emotions are his greatest ally and worst weakness, and how we process them is at the heart of this brilliant sci-fi tale thats woefully underseen.

2.  The Martian:  A great book turned into a better film.  Great performance from Matt Damon and a solid supporting cast make a solid two hours that hold you enraptured.

1.  Spotlight:  The hands down best film of the year and one of the best of the decade.  Who'd have thought a film about 4 reporters at the Boston Globe breaking open the Catholic church sex abuse scandal would be so deeply engrossing, so rich and entertaining.  You owe it to yourself to find and see this masterful piece of work.
